RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Marist men's cross country competed at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, which were held at Van Cortlandt Park. Running a partial squad consisting predominantly of young runners, the Red Foxes were led by freshman Rob Gorski (Goshen, N.Y.), who ran a personal-best time by close to a minute.

Two weeks after making his debut at the 5-mile distance with at Central Connecticut State, Gorski led the Red Foxes with a 57th-place finish in 27:48. That time was a 56-second improvement over his mark at CCSU. Gorski led the team to a 12th-place finish on Friday with 301 points.

Freshman Brian Gordon (Patchogue, N.Y.) was next for Marist, notching a personal-best time of 28:32 in 79th place. Sophomore Doug Ainscow (Derry, N.H.) was the third Red Fox finisher, placing 91st in 29:03. Junior Brendan Green (Bemus Point, N.Y.) and freshman Adam Osowski (Mansfield, Mass.) both ran personal-best times and rounded out the scoring pack for Marist. In all, six out of Marist's seven finishers ran personal-best times at Van Cortlandt on Friday.

The men's cross country team returns to action next week. A partial squad will run at the Penn State National meet on Friday, with the remainder of the team competing at the UAlbany Invitational on Saturday.
