POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game against visiting Saint Peter's by a score of 66-54 on Friday. Marist red-shirt sophomore swingman Dorvell Carter (Bronx, N.Y.) led all scorers with 18 points on the evening.
Carter shot 6-for-17 from the field and played all 40 minutes for the first time in his career. He also grabbed two rebounds and recorded two steals on the night. Freshman swingman Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) scored 15 points and added a team-high six rebounds, while sophomore point guard Devin Price (Inglewood, Calif.) dished out a game-high five assists for the Red Foxes.
Saint Peter's went on an 11-0 run to begin the game, and never relinquished the lead for the duration for the game. The Peacocks had four players scoring in double figures, led by Ryan Bacon, who scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds for the Peacocks. Darius Conley scored 11 points, while Yvon Raymond and Jeron Belin added 10 points apiece off the bench for Saint Peter's.
Marist trailed 41-26 at the half, but outscored Saint Peter's by a 28-25 margin in the second half. The Red Foxes also won the turnover battle, committing just 13 turnovers compared to the 17 by the Peacocks, also outscoring the Peacocks by a 10-2 margin off turnovers in the second half. Marist shot .310 (18-for-58) from the field, .238 (5-for-21) from three-point range, and .722 (13-for-18) from the free-throw line.
The Peacocks scored 32 of their 41 first half points inside the paint, and outscored Marist's bench by a score of 22-1 on the night. Saint Peter's shot .571 (28-for-49) from the field, .333 (4-for-12) from three-point range and .750 (6-for-8) from the free-throw line.
Marist's ninth straight loss dropped the Red Foxes to 4-22 overall and 3-11 in MAAC play this season; Saint Peter's improved to 15-10 overall and 10-4 in the MAAC.
The Red Foxes will next host the Gaels from Iona College on Sunday, Feb. 13 at the McCann Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m., and the first 400 fans ages 14-and-under will receive a free Marist basketball replica jersey.
