POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball team lost its final regular season home game 80-64 on Senior Night at the McCann Center in a Metro Atlantics Athletic Conference (MAAC) match-up against Rider on Friday. Sophomore guard Sam Prescott (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Red Foxes with 18 points, while red-shirt sophomore swingman Dorvell Carter (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 14 points and sophomore guard Devin Price (Inglewood, Calif.) added 13 points on the evening.

Playing his final game in the McCann Center, senior forward Korey Bauer (Whitehall, Pa.) scored six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Red Foxes.

Rider was led by swingman Novar Gadson, who recorded a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. He had game-highs in both categories and shot 8-for-17 from the field, 2-for-4 from the three-point line and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Three other Broncs reached double-figures in scoring as guard Jonathan Thompson scored 16, forward Mike Ringgold dropped in 14 and forward Danny Stewart added an additional 13 points.

The two teams shared baskets and defensive stops to begin the game, leaving the score 6-6 with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. Rider then carried out a 26-4 run over the next 8:27, making the score 32-10 with 5:23 remaining in the first half. Marist finished the half on a 14-6 run, cutting the deficit to 14 and heading to the locker room down 38-24 at the half.

The second half consisted of back-and-forth scoring between the two sides until Marist began its final charge with under nine minutes remaining in the game. With Rider leading 63-52, sophomore guard Candon Rusin (Surf City, N.C.) connected on a three-pointer from the corner, cutting the deficit to eight with 8:24 remaining. Each team traded baskets during their next two possessions, before Marist made a defensive stop, and Rusin converted on a layup with 6:21 remaining and the score 67-61 in favor of the Broncs. However, from there, Rider went on a 13-3 run to conclude the game.

Marist shot .338 (22-for-65) from the field, .111 (3-for-27) from three-point range and .654 (17-for-26) from the free-throw line. The Red Foxes outscored the Broncs in bench scoring by a 12-9 margin and won the turnover battle 10-6, while outscoring Rider in points off turnovers by a score of 7-6.

Rider shot .463 (31-for-67) from the field, .333 (6-for-18) from three-point range and .667 (12-for-18) from the free-throw line. The Broncs outscored the Red Foxes 40-24 in the paint, 19-13 in second-chance points and 12-8 in fast-break points. They out-rebounded Marist 48-39 and led by as many as 22 points.

Marist fell to 5-25 overall and 3-14 in MAAC play; Rider improved to 21-9 overall and 12-5 in the MAAC.

The Red Foxes will finish their regular season schedule this Sunday, Feb. 27 against Siena. The game will be held at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
