ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Marist men's basketball team suffered an 81-73 loss to Siena at the Times Union Center on Sunday night. Red-shirt freshman swingman Anell Alexis (Hillsborough, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with a career-high 22 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
Four Red Foxes scored in double digits. In addition to Alexis, red-shirt sophomore swingman Candon Rusin (Surf City, N.C.) had 10. Both Carter and Price played all 40 minutes.
Siena senior center Ryan Rossiter had game highs of 34 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Four Saints scored in double digits, as Clarence Jackson (19), OD Anosike (14) and Jonathan Breeden (10) also reached double digits.
The game included 11 ties and five lead changes. A three-pointer by Rusin with 4:14 left in the first half capped a 20-10 Marist run and gave the Red Foxes their largest lead of the game, as the shot put them up 32-25. Marist led by four at halftime, 34-30.
With 15:04 to play, a three-pointer by Alexis tied the game for the final time of the evening at 44-44. But a three-pointer by Breeden on the ensuing possession with 14:52 to play gave the Saints the lead for good. Siena expanded its lead to as much as 10, but the Red Foxes got it back to within four on a jumper by Carter with 3:37 to go. However, the Saints scored the next five points on a pair of free throws by Rossiter and a three-pointer by Jackson to pull away.
Marist shot .464 (26-for-56) from the field, .368 (7-for-19) from three-point range and .778 (14-for-18) from the free-throw line. Siena shot .481 (26-for-54) from the field, .333 (4-for-12) from three-point range and .758 (25-for-33) from the line. The Saints held a plus-10 rebounding advantage at 37-27. Both teams committed just 10 turnovers.
Marist concluded the regular season at 5-26 overall and 3-15 in Metro Atlantic Ahtletic Conference play. Siena wraps up at 12-17 overall and 8-10 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes will be the ninth seed in the 2011 Spark Energy MAAC Basketball Championship, and will open play on Friday in the opening round against eighth-seeded Niagara. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
