Marist Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes ECAC Championship In Sixth Place

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Marist men's swimming and diving team finished in sixth place with 307.5 points at the conclusion of the three day ECAC Swimming & Diving Championship competition at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool. With a 18 point surge due to their third place finish in the final event, the 400-yd. freestyle relay, the Red Foxes finished one point behind Columbia for fifth place. Freshman Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) was the top individual finisher for the Red Foxes with his top five finish in the men's 1-meter diving.

The day three finals began with the Red Foxes collecting 27 team points in the 1650-yd. freestyle race. Sophomore Leo Draham (Blue Bell, Pa.) finished ninth at 16:31.88 and junior Patrick Shea (Peabody, Mass.) was 11th with a time of 16:38.62.

The top individual point earner for Marist was Sean Molloy. Competing in his first ECAC 1-meter diving finals, he put together six successful dives to finish with a score of 244.80, good for fifth place.

Marist placed three swimmers in the 100-yd. freestyle finals with freshman Steven Vendetta (South Windsor, Conn.) and Joshua Sklanka (Watertown, Conn.) finished in 11th and 14th with times of 46.97 and 47.19 respectively.

The two other swimmers, who made event finals were sophomore Stephen Miller (Downingtown, Pa.) and freshman Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.). Miller was a finalist in the 200-yd. butterfly and Spinella in the 200-yd. backstroke. Miller finished seventh with a time of 1:52.95. Spinella was ninth at 1:52.17.

In the final event of the championship, the 400-yd. freestyle squad of Vendetta, Lombardi, Spinella and Sklanka finished in third place at 3:05.22.

The ECAC Championship concluded with Navy victorious atop the leaderboard of 22 teams. They finished with 765.5 points, 388.5 ahead of their nearest competitor Boston College.
