ORLANDO, Fla. - The Marist women's tennis team traveled to Orlando to compete in four out-of-conference match-ups starting on Sunday, March 13 and finishing Tuesday, March 15. They faced off with Florida A&M of MEAC and Western Illinois of the Summit League on Sunday, North Dakota of the Great West on Monday and Bucknell of the Patriot League on Tuesday. Their sole team victory was in their matchup versus the Leathernecks of Western Illinois by a score of 7-0. Junior Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) and freshman Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) were the leading single players as they each earned two solo victories during the trip.

vs. Florida A&M

In match number one of the trip, the Red Foxes fell to a strong Florida A&M Rattlers squad by a score of 7-0. The doubles team of sophomores Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Joana Sun (Gales Ferry, Conn.) secured Marist's only victory as they won their no. 1 doubles match vs. Olagbegi and Dean by a score of 9-8 (7-5).

After losing the first set 6-1, Erin McCarthy forced a tie-breaker in the second set of her no. 1 singles match versus Britney Dean before falling in the set 7-6 (7-5).

vs. Western Illinois

In the second match of their trip, the Red Foxes met the Leathernecks of Western Illinois on Sunday afternoon and were victorious in a 7-0 sweep. All six single players: Kelsey Raynor, Erin McCarthy, Joana Sun, Marielle Campbell , senior Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) and senior Retta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.) earned victories for Marist. Byron made the shortest work of her opponent defeating Melissa Zimmerman in the no. 6 match, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the teams of Raynor /Sun, O'Donovan/McCarthy and Byron/Campbell were all victorious. In the no. 3 match, Byron and Campbell defeated the Western Illinois team of Chicoine and Kaufmann in a clean set of 8-0.

vs. North Dakota

On Monday, in their third match, Marist faced off with the University of North Dakota. Though they started out fast as the no. 1 doubles team of Raynor/Sun defeated Ronkowski/Kappers, 8-6, the Red Foxes ended up falling in the final two double matches, as well as five of the six in singles to lose by a score of 6-1.

The sole singles victory was earned by McCarthy, who won her no. 1 match versus Erin Kappers by a score of 7-5, 7-6 (8-6).

vs. Bucknell

In their final match on Tuesday, March 15, the Red Foxes met the Bucknell Bison squad. When the action was complete, Bucknell was victorious by a count of 6-1. Campbell earned Marist their team point with a victory in her no. 3 singles match versus Lauren Rottkamp. She swept Rottkamp in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Junior Kayla O'Donovan (Lynbrook, N.Y.) nearly garnered the team a second point, as she went to a third set in her no. 5 singles match against Elena Vidrascu. After winning the first set 6-2, she lost the second 6-4 before falling in the third by a score of 7-6 (7-4).

In doubles, the no. 1 team of McCarthy/Sun forced a tie-breaker at 7-7. In the tie-breaker, the Bucknell team of Casey/Lucido was victorious 9-7.
