ARLINGTON, Va. - The Marist baseball team won its 11th straight game on Sunday as the Red Foxes defeated George Washington, 19-1. The Red Foxes had 21 hits and drew 13 walks as they swept their fourth consecutive series.
Red-shirt senior designated hitter Bryce Nugent (Binghamton, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, which included his fourth home run of the season. Senior center fielder Michael Gallic (Tolland, Conn.) went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman left fielder Jon Schwind (Hilton, N.Y.) scored a team-high five runs.
On the mound, senior right-hander Kyle Putnam (New Windsor, N.Y.) earned the victory to improve to 2-2 on the season. Putnam went the first five innings, and allowed just four hits and one run. Senior left-hander Sean McKeown (Hillsborough, N.J.) kept the Colonials off the scoreboard in the sixth and seventh, as did freshman right-hander Chris Thorsen (Lititz, Pa.) in the eighth and ninth.
The Red Foxes scored in seven different innings, with four runs in the first, two in the second, two in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, five in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Marist outscored George Washington 46-15 in the three-game series. In the Red Foxes' 11-game winning streak, they have scored at least six runs in every game, and won 10 of them by at least five runs.
George Washington starter Bobby Lucas (1-3), who started and went 1.1 innings, took the loss.
Marist improved to 14-3; George Washington fell to 6-14.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Tuesday, when they play a non-conference game at Albany. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
