RICHMOND, Va. - The Marist baseball team earned a 6-1 victory over Richmond on Friday afternoon in the opener of a three-game series between the teams. Sophomore left-hander Dan Zlotnick (Katonah, N.Y.) earned the win on the mound as he struck out seven and allowed just one run in 5.1 innings to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Offensively, sophomore first baseman Michael Gallic (Tolland, Conn.) each went 2-for-5. Sophomore shortstop Jon Schwind (Hilton, N.Y.) went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Marist scored twice in the top of the first as Orefice scored on an RBI groundout by Shank, and Gallic's RBI double plated Schwind. Richmond scored in the bottom of the second to make it 2-1, but the Red Foxes made it 3-1 in the third when Shank drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on an RBI groundout by Schwind. The score remained that way until the eighth, when Schwind doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. The Red Foxes added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth on an RBI fielder's choice by Shank and a bases-loaded walk by Schwind.
Marist outhit Richmond, 9-8. Center fielder Robby Massar paced the Spiders' attack by going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jacob Mayers, who allowed three runs in seven innings, took the loss for Richmond.
