Marist broke open a scoreless game in the fifth. Junior designated hitter Eric Helmrich (Yonkers, N.Y.) drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a two-out single by Zlotnick. Schwind followed with a double to the gap in left-center to bring home Zlotnick and put Marist up 2-0.
Siena tied the game with a pair of runs in the seventh. Dan Paolini drew a leadoff walk, and scored on a double by catcher Kevin Quaranto, who would then come in on an RBI groundout by third baseman Adam Guinn.
Marist then took the lead for good in the ninth. Sophomore shortstop Zach Shank (Lititz, Pa.) and freshman second baseman Nick McQuail (Wantagh, N.Y.) were both hit by pitches, and an infield single by Zlotnick loaded the bases. Shank then scored on a passed ball to put Marist up 3-2. After Schwind walked to load the bases again, an RBI groundout by sophomore first baseman Mike Orefice (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) brought home McQuail with the Red Foxes' fourth and final run.
Siena cut it to within one in the ninth, as an RBI single by Mike Fish brought home Paolini, who led off the inning with a double. After a rain/lightning delay of 39 minutes, Putnam struck out Teddy Trymbiski to end the game.
For Siena, Paolini went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while Quaranto was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Zach Hartman went the first seven innings for the Saints, and reliever C.J. Sohl went the final two innings. Sohl took the loss and fell to 5-2.
