The Marist men's and women's cross country teams will be competing in the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at Hess Fields at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The men's race will begin at 8 a.m., while the women's race is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. as the championship return to Florida for the first time since 2008.
The Marist men's team has placed second each of the last seven years. The Iona men's team, which is ranked fourth in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Coaches' Poll, has won the last 21 MAAC Championships. The Iona women's team is seeking its eighth straight conference championships.
On the men's side, senior Arquimedes DelaCruz (Wantagh, N.Y.) will seek to claim his fourth All-MAAC honor. The last three years, DelaCruz has placed 14th, 12th and eighth at the event. For the women, sophomore Michelle Gaye (Greenlawn, N.Y.) has posted a strong season after finishing sixth at the event last year.
The MAAC Cross Country Championships Recap Show, featuring start-to-finish coverage of both the men's and women's races along with key interviews with head coaches and student-athletes, can be seen on Saturday at 5 p.m. on ESPN3.
