Marist Roars Past First-Place Loyola, 72-54

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) recorded his third double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, to go along with a career-high eight blocks, pacing the Marist men's basketball team to a 72-54 victory over first-place Loyola in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game on Wednesday night at McCann Arena.

Marist (10-16, 5-10 MAAC) outscored Loyola (19-7, 12-4 MAAC) 25-5 over the final 7:03 of the game. A dunk by Kemp tied the game at 49 apiece with 7:03 to go, and Devin Price (Inglewood, Calif.) hit three-pointers on each of the Red Foxes' next two possessions to give the Red Foxes the lead for good.

They were not done there however, as Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) then stole a Loyola pass and drove the floor for a resounding slam dunk. After a media timeout, R.J. Hall (Bloomfield, N.J.) hit a three-pointer and, after a Lewis layup, hit a pair of free throws. On the next Greyhounds' possession, Price had a steal of his own and was fouled at the other end, where he made both of his shots from the charity stripe to complete a 19-1 run that left Marist with a 66-50 lead with 1:39 left.

Overall, four players scoring in double figures for the Red Foxes. Price added 16 points with the help of 3-for-5 shooting from distance as he played all 40 minutes. Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) and Lewis finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Marist shot 45% (22-49) for the game, including 60% in the second half. They also hit five of their seven shots from behind the arc in the second period.

The Red Foxes trailed 7-2 just three minutes into the game before Marist used a 19-6 run to jump ahead 19-13 with 8:22 remaining in the first half. After Bowie hit a pair of free throws, Isaiah Morton (Richland, N.J.) hit a three-pointer to tie the score at seven.

Following a Loyola basket, Price and Morton made a driving layups, mixed in between pairs of free throws from Lewis, Kemp and Price. Kemp then hit two close-range baskets to complete the streak.

The Greyhounds responded with a run of their own, finishing the first half on a 16-4 run to take a 29-23 lead into the locker rooms.

Kemp led the Red Foxes at the break with six points and added four rebounds. Morton had five points and led the team with five boards. Price and Bowie each had four points.

Shane Walker led Loyola with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Marist returns to action in a Sears BracketBusters contest on Saturday at Maine. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
