STONY BROOK -- The Marist baseball team lost a non-conference game at Stony Brook on Wednesday, 14-5.
Junior shortstop
Zach Shank (Lititz, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Sophomore right fielder
Jake Berry (South Hamilton, Mass.), sophomore third baseman
Nick McQuail (Wantagh, N.Y.), and sophomore first baseman
Pat Welsh (Millersville, Pa.) had two hits apiece.
For Stony Brook, third baseman William Carmona went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and catcher Pat Cantwell was 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
Stony Brook got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, but Marist tied the game in its next at-bat on Berry's two-out, two-run single. However, the Seawolves broke the tie with an eight-run fourth. The Red Foxes then scored single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth.
Junior lefty
Dan Zlotnick (Katonah, N.Y.), Marist's second of five pitchers in the contest, took the loss to fall to 0-2. Stony Brook reliever Matt Gallup (3-0) allowed one run in three innings to earn the victory.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Marist, which is now 10-17. Stony Brook improved to 21-9.
Marist returns to action this weekend with a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series against Siena at McCann Baseball Field. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday. First pitch both days is set for noon.
