A Trio Of Red Foxes Lift Women's Soccer Over Quinnipiac, 3-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Seniors Alycia Cartica (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.), Rycke Guiney (Naperville, Ill.), and Samantha Panzner (Livingston, N.J.) posted one goal each as Marist defeated Quinnipiac, 3-0. The Bobcats, one of two new members to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) move to 2-2-3 in conference play as the Red Foxes advance to 6-2. Goalkeeper Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded two saves in her seventh shutout this season.

Marist wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the second minute of the game. Panzner passed up the field to junior Amanda Epstein (Jericho, N.Y.) who crossed the ball from the right sideline and connected with Cartica. Cartica controlled the pass in the box before taking a few touches and beating the keeper to the right upper corner for a 1-0 edge.

The Red Foxes maintained possession for a majority of the game, applying substantial pressure to the Bobcats defense. The Marist defense had a solid first half performance, holding Quinnipiac to just one shot in the first half that was saved by Wicks.

Guiney netted her seventh goal this season in the 65th minute on a direct kick from 40 yards out. The Red Foxes earn a 2-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining in regulation.

Panzner increased Marist's lead to three in the 83rd minute off an assist from Epstein. Epstein, dribbling from the left sideline, passed back to Panzner using her heel. Panzner dribbled inside and ripped a shot that lofted over Quinnipiac's Natalia Grodzki for the score.

“I thought the focus going into this game was excellent,” said head coach Katherine Lyn. “We made some tactical adjustments for the second half and realized that our skill and our movement off the ball would have been the success that we needed. This means that the girls are coachable, so as long as the girls continue to listen to the coaching staff we should be in a good place moving forward.”

Marist finishes regular season MAAC play with one game away and one home; Saturday, Oct. 19 at Monmouth and Wednesday, Oct. 23 against Iona. Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday's game, held at Tenney Stadium, is senior night for the Red Fox graduating class. Admission is free and open to the public.
