LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Marist women's soccer team fell to Siena Wednesday afternoon in a 1-0 decision. Junior goalkeeper Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y) recorded three saves for the Red Foxes.
Marist recorded five shots in the first half, including two on goal. In the second minute of the game, Danielle Glazer (Queens, N.Y.) made a short pass inside the box to Alycia Cartica (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.). Cartica took a hard shot towards the upper left corner that deflected off the post and was eventually cleared out of bounds.
Later at the 26:37 mark, Cartica took a short range shot that Siena goalkeeper Taylor Booth, with the assistance of a Saints' defender, was able to knock away.
Wicks recorded all three of her saves in the first half. With less than fifteen minutes remaining in the first half Wicks blocked a powerful shot taken by Siena forward Taylor D'Alfonso from inside the box to keep the game scoreless leading into halftime.
Marist attempted three shots in the second half, but were unable to convert. With 27:42 remaining in the second half, Megan McEnroe (St. James, N.Y.), headed a cross from the right sideline that missed narrowly wide.
The Saints put the first point on the board in the 66th minute. Brittany Pfaff scored her 11th goal of the season for Siena past a diving Wicks to earn a 1-0 lead.
In the 68th minute, Marissa Mertens (Hicksville, N.Y.) got her head on the end of a corner kick from Rycke Guiney (Naperville, Ill.). Siena's Booth deflected the ball up and over the post to secure the 1-0 lead.
The women's soccer team returns home to face MAAC competitor, Rider, on Saturday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
