HAMDEN, Conn. – The Marist women's basketball team earned its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win of the season on Friday with a 69-63 victory over Quinnipiac. The Red Foxes move to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) led Marist with a career high 19 points and an additional five rebounds and three assists. Coffey went 11-11 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) posted 18 points, five rebounds, and a career high four steals. Senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded a team high seven rebounds and freshman Katharine Fogarty (Peterborough, N.Y.) contributed an additional six boards.

Marist opened up the game with a 6-1 run, with baskets from Blais, Coffey, and senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.). Quinnipiac rallied, tying the game at eight apiece with 14:57 remaining in the first half. The Red Foxes responded with a 10-0 run, taking a 18-8 lead just shy of 11 minutes into the game. Marist took its biggest lead of the half with 4:07 remaining, up 29-16. The Bobcats outscored Marist 11-4 in the final four minutes of the half to no avail. Quinnipiac trailed the Red Foxes 33-27 at halftime.

The Bobcats opened up the second half with a quick seven points to Marist's two to bring it within one with 18:18 remaining in regulation. The Red Foxes responded with an 11-0 run, fueled by four points from O'Connor and five points from Coffey. Quinnipiac responded with an 8-3 run with two threes from Samantha Guastella and a layup from Brittany McQuain. Marist led 42-49 with 13:37 left in the second half.

Quinnipiac fought back and pulled within four of Marist with 7:19 remaining. Jasmine Martin hit a jumper for the Bobcats to close in, 56-54, with 6:27 left. Blais went two-for-two from the free-throw line to take a 58-54 lead with 5:59 remaining. A layup from Camryn Warner and a free-throw from Martin pulled Quinnipiac within one with less than four minutes to play. Coffey, who was perfect from the line, sank another two with just over two minutes left to increase Marist's lead to three with 2:23 left. Guastella dropped another layup with 2:06 remaining to cut Quinnipiac's deficit to one. O'Connor laid in the ball with under two minutes to go to give the Red Foxes a 62-59 lead. Two free-throws from Coffey, followed by a jumper from Quinnipiac's Martin, and two additional free-throws by Blais posted a 66-61 score with 33 seconds left. Marist closed the game with three additional points to Quinnipiac's two to earn a 69-63 victory.

Following an eight-day break between games, Marist faces Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 14 in Boston. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
