FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Marist women's soccer team drops its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest this season to Fairfield, 2-1. Alycia Cartica (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) scored for Marist in the 88th minute. Samantha Panzner (Livingston, N.J.) was credited with the assist. Goalkeeper Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y.) made six saves for the Red Foxes.
The Stags posted the first goal of the game in the 39th minute. Ashley Small fed the ball from inside the box to Erin Pettersen who shot the ball past Wicks to earn a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Marist dominated offensively in the second half, outshooting Fairfield 9-4. Cartica tied the game at the 87:37 mark with a header into the far upper corner post.
Seconds later, at the 87:50 mark, Small scored to give the Stags a 2-1 advantage with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
Rycke Guiney (Napperville, Ill.) led the team with three shots on goal. Juliette Loccisano (Happauge, N.Y.) recorded two.
The women's soccer team faces MAAC foe Siena on Wednesday, Oct. 2 on the road. The women return home on Saturday, Oct. 5 to face Rider. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
