ALBANY -- The Marist men's basketball team had its five-game winning streak come to an end on Friday with a 67-58 loss to Siena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the Times Union Center.
Red-shirt freshman Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) scored a career-high 22 points, thanks to a career-high four three-pointers. Hart was joined in double figures by senior forward Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) and junior swingman Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.), who each had 11. Sophomore forward Phillip Lawrence (Baltimore, Md.) had a team-high seven rebounds, which set a career high.
For Siena, Brett Bisping had 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Evan Hymes led the Saints with 17 points, and Rob Poole had 15 points.
A choppy first half included six lead changes, three ties, and 24 fouls combined on both teams. Marist led by as much as five with 11:30 left in the first half. However, Siena answered with an 8-0 run over the next 2:51 to take a 20-17 lead. The lead changed hands twice more before Bisping's layup with 4:29 left in the half gave the Saints the lead for good. Siena outscored Marist 10-2 over the final 5:27 of the half to take a 32-25 lead into the locker room. The Red Foxes remained within striking distance despite shooting just .208 from the field (5-for-24) in the half, thanks in large part due to shooting .867 (13-for-15) at the free-throw line.
Marist outscored Siena 9-4 over the first five minutes of the second half, and clawed to within two points on two occasions. However, the Saints expanded their lead with a 9-0 run, during which the Red Foxes were held scoreless for a stretch of 5:05. Siena grew its lead to a game-high of 14, and Marist never got within six in the final 10 minutes.
