BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Marist women's basketball team (13-5, 7-1 MAAC) defeated Canisius (7-11, 3-6 MAAC) in its final game of the Buffalo swing, 73-47. With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 7-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). This victory was also the 200th conference win in program history since Marist joined the MAAC in 1997-98. Head coach Brian Giorgis is responsible for 178 of the 200 wins.

Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) recorded her third career double-double with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. O'Connor also led Marist with three blocks. Senior Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) posted 15 points and four assists. Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) recorded a team-high five assists, three steals, and contributed 10 points. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) posted four rebounds and two steals.

Despite a slow start, with the score 1-0 in favor of Marist for two full minutes, the Red Foxes picked it up, outscoring Canisius 20-12 run over the ensuing eight minutes. Marist led Canisius 21-12 at the 9:20 mark, fueled by six points from Dulin and four points from Coffey. Two straight layups by redshirt junior Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and followed by a three by O'Connor increased the Red Fox lead to 12 (26-14) with 7:30 to play.

Blais and O'Connor had back-to-back drives to the basket to move ahead, 30-17 at the 5:20 mark. Three successful shots at the line between senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Coffey, split by a jumper by Griffs' Jen Lennox, gave Marist a 33-21 edge with 4:00 to go. Marist closed the half with two straight layups by Coffey and O'Connor but Canisius ended the half in style as Jen Morabito hit a three at the buzzer. Marist posted 17 rebounds, including 12 defensive and five steals in an impressive guarding effort during the first half.

Dulin opened up the second half with a layup, putting Marist up 39-24 at the 17:48 mark. Canisius and the Red Foxes shot basket-for-basket over the following three and a half minutes, posting a 51-32 score with 14:08 to play. The Griffs went on an 8-0 run over the following four minutes, pulling within 11 with 10:05 to play. Marist responded with a 14-2 run to take a 23 point lead at the 5:51 mark, including five points by O'Connor and Ockenden. Canisius would score five points to Marist's eight to end the game at the Red Foxes earned a 73-47 victory.

Following this matchup, the Red Foxes will return home for a three-game slate, beginning on Thursday, Jan. 23 against Saint Peter's. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at McCann Arena.
