POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's basketball team (14-5, 8-1 MAAC) defeated Saint Peter's (3-15, 2-7 MAAC), 71-42. The Red Foxes improved to 8-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with the win.

Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) led Marist with 16 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished the game just one board shy of a double-double with 13 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) recorded 13 points and three steals. Freshman Katharine Fogarty (Peterborough, N.H.) posted a career-high nine rebounds and seven points. Freshman Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) posted six points and a team-high four assists. Redshirt junior Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) posted a game-high three blocks. 

Saint Peter's opened up the game strong on a 6-0 run, leading with 17:30 to play. Marist quickly tied the game up, following two threes by Ockenden and Blais. The Red Foxes and Peacocks battled basket-for-basket over the following 13 minutes, knotting the game up at 23 at the four minute mark. Marist closed the first half on an 8-0 run, scored entirely by freshmen Lai and Fogarty.

Despite a close first half, Marist posted a dominating second half, scoring 40 points and holding Saint Peter's to just 19 points. The Red Foxes opened up the second half on a 21-5 run, taking a 52-30 lead with just under 12 minutes to play. Peacocks' Antonia Smith snuck in a layup to pull within 20 but Marist responded with a 12-0 run, leading 64-32 with seven minutes to go. Saint Peter's and Marist shot evenly to conclude the game, the Red Foxes scoring seven points, the Peacocks posting eight, but the comeback attempt fell short as Marist defeated Saint Peter's 71-42.

The Red Foxes continue their home slate with a home game on Saturday, Jan. 25 against Niagara. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at McCann Arena.
