The lead changed hands twice in the final three minutes of the first half, and Marist took a 32-31 lead into halftime.
A free throw by Canisius' Jordan Heath tied the score at 32 apiece with 19:25 to play. However, Marist answered with an 11-0 run, which included five points from Bowie, to take the game's largest lead at 43-32 with 16:00 to play.
Canisius chipped away at the lead, and tied the score at 55 all on a three-pointer by Heath with 4:12 to go. However, a three-pointer by Bowie on Marist's next time down the floor gave the Red Foxes the lead for good with 3:14 remaining. Bowie hit another clutch three-pointer, this one from the corner, with 1:00 left to give the Red Foxes a 63-57 lead.
A layup by Heath in the waning seconds brought Canisius to within 64-62. Lewis was then fouled with 1.7 seconds to go. He missed the front end, but hit the second to make the score 65-62.
