PRINCETON, NJ - Junior John Lee (Wading River, N.Y.) led a tight scoring pack of top-5 runners as the Marist College men's cross country team placed 19th out of 38 teams Saturday at the Princeton University Invitational, held at West Windsor Fields. Lee was the leader again for the Running Red Foxes, placing 60th in a personal-best time of 25:14 for the 8,000-meter course. Last year at this meet, Marist was 22nd out of 31 teams.
Seniors Ken Walshak (Babylon, N.Y.) and Mark Valentino (Smithtown, N.Y) followed closely across the line. Walshak was 81st in 25:27 and Valentino notched a personal-best time of 25:37, good for 99th place. Sophomore Saad Bag (Staten Island, N.Y.) (25:47, 121st place) and junior Ryan Colabella (Hauppauge, N.Y) (25:51, 130th place), rounded out the scoring pack. The top-5 spread was 33 seconds.
In the Open Race, the Marist men had an even more compact scoring pack, led by junior Omar Perez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y) personal-best time of 26:21. The Open Men finished fifth out of 27 teams and had a 1-through-5 spread of 15 seconds. Other scoring Open Division runners: Bryan Buttigieg (Massapequa, N.Y.) 26:26; Joseph Miller (Seaford, N.Y.) 26:29; Charles Ropes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) 26:30; Jake Hensler (North Massapequa, N.Y.) 26:36.
The Red Foxes return to action on Friday, October 31, at the MAAC Championships at Holmdel Park in New Jersey.
