POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist football team (0-5 overall, 0-2 Pioneer Football League) heads to Valparaiso (1-3, 0-1) for a league contest on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. EDT.
Marist is coming off a 20-16 loss at home against San Diego in its last outing on Sept. 27. Senior safety Matthew Semelsberger (Ijamsville, Md.) had a team-high 11 tackles, including two for a loss of yardage. Senior defensive end Demetrius Williams (Smyrna, Del.) returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown.
Offensively, fifth-year senior wide receiver Armani Martin (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had his 14th career receiving touchdown on a 34-yard pass from sophomore Anthony Francis (Providence, R.I.), who was making his first career start. Fifth-year senior running back Atiq Lucas (Coram, N.Y.) ran for a season-high 88 yards on 26 carries.
Marist is 5-0 against Valparaiso all-time, including 2-0 in road games.
Following Saturday's game, the Red Foxes will have three straight home games. Marist's next contest will be against Dayton on Saturday, Oct. 11 at noon as part of Alumni Weekend.
