HOLMDEL, N.J. - The Marist men's cross country team placed fourth at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship on Friday at Holmdel Park. It was a jump of two spots for the Red Foxes from last year's performance.
“I'm extremely proud of them,” Head Coach Pete Colaizzo said. “They showed a lot of heart and toughness. This league is really, really deep. I'm as proud of this team's performance as any in my 24 years.”
Junior John Lee (Wading River, N.Y.) finished 20th overall and led the way for the Red Foxes with a time of 25:58.74 on the 8K course. Following right behind in 21st was graduate student and captain Ken Walshak (Babylon, N.Y.), who finished with a time of 26:03.83.
Junior Ryan Colabella (Hauppauge, N.Y.) turned in one of his best performances of the season to finish 26th, senior Mark Valentino (Smithtown, N.Y.) was 37th, and junior Patrick Rynkowski (Ridgewood, N.J.) finished in 39th to round out the Red Foxes' scorers.
The Red Foxes posted a total of 113 points. Iona led the way for the 24th consecutive year, finishing with 15 points. The Gaels had the top nine finishers in the race.
At the awards banquet following the race, a conference-best 15 Red Foxes earned MAAC All-Academic Team honors.
