POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team took down Rider 184-106 in its final home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference dual meet of the season Nov. 15. The Red Foxes remained unbeaten in MAAC competition, moving to 3-0 and 3-1 overall.
Freshman Karly Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) won three individual events, leading Marist to 27 points. She began the meet by taking first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:42.93. She placed in the top spot at long and short distances, winning the 200-yard event in 1:57.00 and the 500-yard event in 5:08.61.
Three more Red Foxes won at least two events, with junior captain Bethany Powhida (Delmar, N.Y.) taking the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes in times of 58.67 seconds and 2:06.93 respectively. In the consecutive freestyle events, sophomore Meredith Wurtz (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) raced to first place finishes of 24.25 seconds at 50 yards and 53.18 seconds at 100 yards. Sophomore Isabella Morreale (Short Hills, N.J.) was dominant in the breaststroke, clocking in at 1:07.85 in the 100-yard event and 2:26.44 at 200 yards.
Marist's 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Colleen Lampe (East Setauket, N.Y.), Morreale, freshman Deirdre Connor (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Wurtz kicked off the meet with a first place finish of 1:49.36.
Senior Kimberly Tobias (San Jose, Calif.) won the 1-meter dive by scoring 270.73 points. Freshman Megan Berardelli (Ambler, Pa.), Tobias, and junior Renata Diotalevi (Madison, Conn.) finished second, third, and fourth in the 3-meter event respectively.
The Red Foxes will compete at the H2ounds Invitational, where they will face off against Loyola as well as MAAC rivals Saint Peter's and Iona, on Dec. 5-6 in Baltimore, Md. The meet will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m.
