POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball team lost a 76-62 contest to Army in its home opener Nov. 22 in McCann Arena.

Senior guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) led all scorers with 21 points and junior center Eric Truog (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) snatched six rebounds.

Marist shot just over 43 percent from the field, while the Black Knights finished at 37 percent.

The Black Knights were led by sophomore Tanner Omlid, who led the team in rebounds (eight), steals (four) and blocks (three) to keep Army's unbeaten record intact. Junior Kyle Wilson scored 20 points.

Marist led for most of the first half, as Lewis finished on both ends of an 8-0 run that put the Red Foxes ahead 20-11. Army chipped away at the lead, cutting the deficit to one before tying the score at 39 with 2:13 left to play. A jumper from Army freshman Luke Morrison gave the Black Knights their first lead, but Lewis tied the game with an emphatic dunk less than one minute later to send both teams to the locker room tied at 41.

In the second half, Army jumped out to an early four-point lead, but Marist tied the score four more times. A layup by sophomore guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) knotted the contest at 51, and the Marist lead expanded to 59-55 at the midway point. A late 9-0 Army scoring spree gave the Black Knights the cushion they would need however.

The Red Foxes return to action in the Gulf Coast Showcase at 6 p.m. Nov. 24. Marist will kick off the tournament playing host Florida Gulf Coast.

Notes: Chavaughn Lewis moved past Danny Basile for fifth place on the program's all-time scoring list.
