WACO, TEXAS – The Marist women's basketball team (0-4) dropped their fourth straight of the season as they fell to the Stetson Hatters (4-0), 57-50 Friday afternoon at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.

An 11-0 run capped by two free throws from junior guard Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) would cut the deficit to four with 1:32 remaining as the Red Foxes just couldn't get over the hump in the second half. The four point deficit was the second closest the Red Foxes would get in the half. A three from senior guard Bri Holmes (Columbus, Ohio) that cut the Baylor lead to two at the 12:25 mark would be the closest the Red Foxes would get in the game.

Junior forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) was the only member of the Red Foxes to score in double figures recording 13 points, five rebounds and four assists on 4-14 shooting. Coffey and Holmes would add nine points each.

The Red Foxes started hot from deep in the first half but cooled off as the period went on, hitting three of their first five shots from deep but ending 0-7 from three. Blais finished the half 2-7 for eight points and three rebounds.

The Hatters controlled almost all of the first half with stellar defense recording two blocks and three steals which translated into 12 turnovers for the Red Foxes. As a team the Red Foxes shot 22 percent in the first half to Stetson's 39 percent.

As a team the Red Foxes finished the game shooting 35 percent from the field, 38 percent from the three point line and 71 percent from the line. Stetson shot 40 percent from the field, 15 percent from three and 50 percent at the line.

Sophomore guard Brianti Saunders recorded a double-double for the Hatters, earning 17 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Jama Sharp notched 12 points and 5 assists for Stetson.

The Marist women's basketball team under Brian Giorgis opened the 2005-06 season 0-4, now tied for the worst start under the 13 year head coach and the only other four game losing streak ever for Giorgis. The Red Foxes went on a 12 game winning streak that season and finished 23-7, winning the MAAC Championship.

This game was the first of three games the team will play at the Basketball Travelers Classic. The Red Foxes will play Utah State (1-2) tomorrow at 3 P.M and then #13 Baylor (1-1) on Sunday at 3:30 P.M.
