PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 59-42 loss to Penn at the Palestra on Tueday night.

Freshman point guard K.J. Lee (Huntington Station, N.Y.) scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Red Foxes. Lee, who shot 4-for-9 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line, added three steals, three assists and three rebounds.

Freshman guard James Griffin (Brisbane, Australia) scored a career-high eight points while tying for the team lead with five rebounds. Red-shirt freshman guard Nick Colletta (Glendora, Calif.) added eight points thanks to two three-pointers.

Sam Jones scored 19 points off the bench to lead Penn. Jones shot 5-for-6 from three-point range. Greg Louis, who shot 5-for-7 from the field, added 13 points and tied for the game high with nine rebounds.

Marist got off to a slow start, going scoreless in the first 4:43 and falling behind 24-4 with 5:46 left in the first half. The Red Foxes trailed by as much as 24 in the first half before a three-pointer by senior forward Manny Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the waning seconds of the half made the score 35-14 going to the locker room. Penn grew its lead to as much as 28 in the second half before Marist scored the game's final 11 points, holding the Quakers scoreless over the game's final 2:54.

Marist shot .212 (11-for-52) from the field and .143 (4-for-28) from three-point range while committing 21 turnovers and being outrebounded 45-31. The Red Foxes went 16-for-17 from the free-throw line.

Marist fell to 1-8; Penn is now 3-5.

Marist returns to action on Saturday, when the Red Foxes head to VMI for a non-conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Notes: Marist was without the services of senior guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) for the second straight game, red-shirt sophomore guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) for the seventh straight game and senior guard T.J.
