POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior center Tori Jarosz scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in her first game back from injury as the Marist Women's Basketball team (2-5, 1-0 MAAC) beat Monmouth (3-3, 0-1 MAAC), 75-65 on Friday night in McCann Arena.

The victory was the Red Foxes 10th in a row in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) openers and fourth in a row against Monmouth. Junior forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) finished the night with 22 points, 5 short of her career high, and added eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Katharine Fogarty had another stellar game and ended up one rebound shy of her second double-double of the year with 11 points and nine rebounds. For the first time this season the Red Foxes would finish with four players with double figure scoring.

“I'm happy to be out there helping the team,” said Jarosz. “Happy my first game is back in front of our home crowd. I felt pretty good out there.”

For the game the Red Foxes shot 38 percent from the field, 6-22 from the three point line for 27 percent and racked up 35 free throws, converting on 29 of them.

The Red Foxes took a 10 point lead into halftime behind some sharp shooting from Blais and some force down low from Jarosz. Blais totaled 19 points in the half on 5-6 shooting from the field including 3-4 from behind the arc. Blais also added a game high 6 rebounds in the first half. Jarosz did her damage in the paint earning 10 points in the half and going a perfect 4-4 from the stripe.

The Red Foxes as a team shot 39 percent in the first half on 12-31 shooting and 4-13 for 31 percent from the three point line. Marist recorded more trips to the free throw line, 13 to Monmouth's two, and converted on 11 freebies.

Both teams tied in rebounding at the half with 22 apiece. Other contributors in the first half included Fogarty with five points, three rebounds and junior guard Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) with three points, two rebounds. Coffey would finish the game 11-12 from the free throw line en route to a 13 point total for the game.

“They hit a few at the end that got them back into it,” coach Brian Giorgis said. “But overall I can't let the last five minutes effect the first 35 minutes we had from everybody.”
