POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) led the Red Foxes with 28 points as Marist defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe, Quinnipiac, 100-81. This is the second time this season the Red Foxes posted 100 points in a game, defeating Northeastern 103-66 on Dec. 18. It is also the second time head coach Brian Giorgis has coached his team to the century mark and the first time Marist has ever recorded 100 points against a conference opponent.
Coffey shot 90% from the field, missing just one shot on the night. Including Coffey, six Red Foxes scored in double-figures for the first time this season. Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) posted 18 points and seven rebounds. Senior Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) recorded 15 points, seven boards, and a team-high nine assists. Senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) contributed 13 points and a game-high four steals. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) and redshirt junior Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had 11 points apiece while Blais dished out five assists.
The Red Foxes had a 29-7 assist-to-turnover ratio against the Bobcats. Marist also grabbed 26 defensive boards and had nine steals.
An evenly-matched opening five minutes resulted in a tied 11-11 score at the 15:54 mark. Quinnipiac's Morgan Manz hit a jumper to put the Bobcats ahead for its first lead of the game. The lead was short lived as Coffey put the Red Foxes back on top with a three-pointer at the 14:44 mark. Jumpers by Jasmine Martin and Brittany McQuain for Quinnipiac, split by a Jarosz layup, gave the Bobcats a slight 20-19 lead at the 12:54 mark. The teams would trade leads one final time before Dulin gave Marist the ede with a layup at the 11:50 mark, up 23-22.
The Red Foxes scored seven unanswered points, to lead 30-22 at the 9:46 mark. Quinnipiac responded with eight unanswered points of their own to tie the game at 30 with 8:23 to play in the first half. O'Connor and Nikoline Ostergaard traded baskets to result in another tied score, this time at 32. Marist would post an 18-6 run to close the period, to lead 50-38 at halftime. Coffey led the Red Foxes with 17 points at the half.
Marist narrowly outscored Quinnipiac to open up the second half 12-9 to lead 64-47 at the 16:07 mark. The Bobcats scored four points to Marist's two over the following two minutes to cut the Red Fox lead to 13. A 6-0 run by Marist posted a 72-53 advantage for the Red Foxes with 12:08 to play. Quinnipiac responded with a 14-7 run to trail 79-67 at the 9:11 mark.
The Bobcats pulled within as little as nine at the 3:29 mark to trail Marist just 86-77. The Red Foxes concluded the game on a 14-4 run to defeat Quinnipiac 100-81, improving to 14-2 in conference play.
