POUGHKEEPSIE -- The Marist men's basketball team suffered an 86-67 loss to Iona in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena.
Red-shirt freshman guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) led four Red Foxes in double digits with 18 points. Hart shot 7-for-13 from the field with three assists and two rebounds.
Hart was followed by junior swingman Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) with 17, senior forward Jay Bowie (Tampa, Fla.) with 18, and senior center Adam Kemp (Sherrill, N.Y.) with 10 points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds.
Marist trailed by as much as 11 in the first half, but two buckets by Hart in the final minute enabled the Red Foxes to close the gap to 41-38 at halftime. A dunk by Lewis gave Marist a 45-44 lead with 18:26 to play, but Iona answered with a 16-3 run over the next 4:23 to take the lead for good.
Iona's A.J. English and David Laury tied for the game high with 22 points apiece. Laury tied Kemp for the game high in rebounds with nine.
Marist tied its season low with seven turnovers, but shot just .136 (3-for-22) from three-point range.
Marist is now 11-17 overall and 8-10 in MAAC play. Iona is 19-8 overall and 16-2 in the MAAC.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Friday, when they travel to Fairfield for a 7 p.m. tip. This will be Marist's final road game of the 2013-14 season. The Red Foxes will then return home to face Quinnipiac on Sunday at 2 p.m. Prior to the game, the program will hold its annual Senior Day ceremony.
