POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Head coach Brian Giorgis earned his 300th career win on Friday night as the Marist women's basketball team (23-6, 17-2 MAAC) defeated Monmouth (6-24, 5-14 MAAC), 83-52. With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 23-6 overall and 17-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Marist also clinched the second seed for the MAAC tournament next weekend.

Senior Emma O'Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 16 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Sophomore Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) posted 14 points and two steals. Senior Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) had 13 points and three assists. Senior Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) recorded 10 points and a game-high seven assists. Sophomore Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) had 10 points and four boards for the Red Foxes. Redshirt junior Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had a team-high seven rebounds.

Marist had 36 rebounds, 21 assists, and 10 steals on the night. The Red Foxes forced 22 Monmouth turnovers and only allowed four steals. Marist shot 47.5 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three-point range, and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.

O'Connor opened up the game with a three, which was reciprocated by Monmouth's Helena Kurt to result in the first of three tied scores in the opening seven minutes. The teams traded baskets to knot the score at 12 with 13:40 left in the first half. The Red Foxes exploded with a 10-0 run over the following two minutes, taking a 22-12 lead with just over 11 minutes to go.

Each team notched a couple points before the Red Foxes posted a 15-5 run to lead 39-20 with just under five minutes to play. Marist outscored the Hawks 13-8 to close the first half to take a 52-28 lead at the half.

Coffey opened up the second half with two free-throws to edge Marist ahead, 54-28. Monmouth outscored the Red Foxes 13-8 over the following seven minutes to cut the Marist lead to 21. O'Connor drove to the basket for a layup to fuel a 9-0 run by the Red Foxes as Marist went up 71-41 with just over nine minutes to play.

The Hawks scored seven points to Marist's three over the following four minutes to trail the Red Foxes 74-48 with five minutes to play. Marist posted a 9-4 surge to close the half as the Red Foxes defeated Monmouth, 83-52.

The Red Foxes return to action for the last regular season game of the 2013-14 season on Sunday, Mar. 2 at Iona. Tip-off is set for noon. The game will be aired live on ESPN3. On Sunday, Marist is fighting for a share of the MAAC regular season title to earn its 11th straight.
