Siena Tops Marist; Second Game Postponed

Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE – Siena defeated Marist by a score of 6-5 in the first game of a scheduled Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at McCann Baseball Field. Immediately following the conclusion of the contest, the second game was postponed due to rain.

Freshman third baseman Ben Moller (Warrington, Pa.) paced Marist offensively by going 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Sophomore right fielder Matt Pagano (Cranston, R.I.) and sophomore second baseman Joey Aiola (Suffern, N.Y.) each went 2-for-4, and senior shortstop Nick McQuail (Wantagh, N.Y.) belted his second home run of the season.

Siena jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Marist got on the scoreboard in the third on an RBI groundout by sophomore center fielder Graham McIntire (Concord, N.H.), which brought home Moller. In the fourth, McQuail led off with a solo homer, and Moller's sacrifice fly scored junior first baseman Steve Laurino (Carle Place, N.Y.) to tie the game at three apiece. After Siena took a 4-3 lead in the sixth, Moller's two-out RBI triple brought home Pagano to tie the game at four.

Siena took back the lead with single runs in the eighth and ninth. In the Red Foxes' last at-bat, an infield error with two outs brought Moller home and advanced the tying run to third, but a fielder's choice ended the game.

Matt Gage (2-3) pitched a complete game for Siena. Gage scattered 10 hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out six. Two of the runs he allowed were unearned. Junior right-hander Chris Napolitano (Wall, N.J.), who pitched 1.2 innings of relief, took the loss and is 0-1. Senior left-hander Jordan Eich (Spencerport, N.Y.) started for Marist and struck out six in 5.2 innings.

Siena outhit Marist, 15-10. For the Saints, first baseman Vincent Citro, catcher Dave Hoffmann and shortstop Tyler Martis each had three hits and an RBI. Hoffmann added a double and two runs scored.

Siena is now 4-17 overall and 4-0 in the MAAC; Marist is 6-15 overall and 0-4 in the MAAC.

Marist and Siena will attempt to play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at Noon. The first game is scheduled for seven innings, which will be followed by a nine-inning game. Please check GoRedFoxes.com and the official Twitter account of Marist Athletics, @MaristAthletics, for further updates.
