Water Polo Defeats VMI, Wagner On Senior Day

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's water polo team kicked off a full day of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a commanding 17-7 win over VMI, and then defeated Wagner 13-12. Prior to the VMI contest, the Red Foxes honored their senior class. 

The Red Foxes now stand at 13-14 overall and 5-1 in the MAAC.

Marist 17, VMI 7

Juniors Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif,), Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.), and freshman Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, QC) all posted hat tricks for the Red Foxes. Junior Anna-Lena Hathaway (South Pasadena, Calif.) and freshman Jocelyn McQuade (Vancouver, BC) added two goals each. Junior Hannah Levien (Davis, Calif.), senior Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.), sophomore Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.), and freshman Nastassia McGlothlin (Mission Viejo, Calif.) netted one goal apiece. Levien led Marist with four assists while Amorosa dished out three of her own.

After scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter to take an early 4-0 lead, Marist jumped ahead to a 7-3 lead in the second quarter. The Red Foxes would have a dominant third quarter with seven goals scored to VMI's one to take a 14-4 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Each team would score three additional goals in the fourth but Marist would defeat the Keydets, 17-7.

Marist 13, Wagner 12

Junior Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) opened the scoring for Marist, as the first quarter ended in a 3-3 tie. Wagner went on to take the lead, but Marist came back from a three-goal deficit to claim a score of 7-6 to end the second quarter. Wagner opened the next quarter to tie the game at seven before reclaiming the lead. Freshman Amanda Amorosa (Montreal, QC) tied it up, while sophomore Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) notched a goal for the Red Foxes to post the last lead change. In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks tied the game at 12 before Jessica Hamby posted the game-winning goal to seal the victory for Marist.

Jessica Hamby led the Red Foxes with six goals in the outing, while junior Alison Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) added five assists. Junior Anna-Lena Hathaway (South Pasadena, Calif.) compiled four steals and Amorosa had three field blocks.

The Red Foxes move on to face off against Iona at 12 p.m. next Saturday before taking on Siena at 4 p.m. The contests will take place at Siena
