Box Score

STONY BROOK – The Marist baseball team was defeated by Stony Brook by a score 9-3 in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.

The Red Foxes were held to four hits in the contest. Freshman center fielder Jamari Moore (Marietta, Ga.) was 1-for-2 with two walks, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Senior catcher Zachary Passerelle (Sparta, N.J.) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Stony Brook scored single runs in the first and second, and two in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. Marist scored its first run in the sixth as Moore doubled with one out, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore right fielder Graham McIntire (Concord, N.H.). The Seawolves charged back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to expand their lead to 8-1.

Marist scored twice in the seventh on just one hit, a leadoff double by Passerelle. With two outs, senior designated hitter Pat Welsh (Millersville, Pa.) was hit by a pitch to force home Passerelle. Moore followed with a bases-loaded walk to force home junior first baseman Steve Laurino (Carle Place, N.Y.). However, the Red Foxes left the bases loaded in the inning. Stony Brook then added a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Stony Brook left fielder Jack Parenty, shortstop Cole Peragine, designated hitter Casey Baker and third baseman Johnny Caputo each had two hits. Parenty and Peragine each scored two runs, while Baker and Caputo each drove in two.

Freshman right-hander Stephen Priolo (Voorhees, N.J.), who started and went the first five innings for Marist, took the loss and stands at 0-1. The Red Foxes received 1.2 scoreless innings of relief from freshman right-hander Tyler Dearden (Lagrange, N.Y.). Stony Brook starter Tyler Honahan (4-0) earned the win, and Cameron Stone picked up his fourth save by going the final 2.1 innings.

Marist fell to 7-17; Stony Brook is 12-10.

Marist will return to action with a non-conference game on Wednesday at Holy Cross. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
