POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women's tennis team fell to Fordam afternoon, 6-1. Sophomore Karly Pang (Kaneohe, Hawaii) had the lone singles win for the Red Foxes at first singles with a 6-7 (5), 6-0, 10-6 rout of Ellie Ball. Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) picked up the lone singles win for the Red Foxes at third singles. With the loss, Marist moves to 4-9 overall.
“Overall I thought the girls put forth a great effort,” said head coach Jason Sacher. “I thought that the score was not reflective of all the good things we did today. We competed against a tough team in Fordham and overall it was very competitive. We feel as a team we are heading in the right direction and are looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
Fordham swept singles play against Marist. Senior Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) fell to Sarah Ali, 6-2, 7-5. Sophomore Melissa Carlay (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Angelika Dabu. Sophomore Lisa Ventimiglia (Bayside, N.Y.) was edged by Julie Leong in three sets, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Nikki Rohan (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) was topped by Bella Genkina, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Katie Seitz (Pennington, N.Y.) fell to Destiny Grunin in a tough three set match, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
Fordham picked up the doubles point against the Red Foxes with three victories. Freshman Callie Morlock (Golden, Colo.) and Pang fell to Ball and Ali in first doubles, 8-4. Sophomore Kaye Eastman (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Carlay were topped by Dabu and Leong, 8-6. Seitz and Campbell were edged by Grunin and Ankia Novacek, 9-7.
Marist faces Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match-up tomorrow, Thursday, April 17. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Jersey City, N.J.
