STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Marist men's cross country team placed fourth out of five teams at the Wolfie Invitational on Sept. 13. Nationally-ranked Providence and Columbia took the top two spots in the meet, followed by UConn, Marist and host Stony Brook.
Freshman Steven Morrison led the way for the Red Foxes, placing 30th in the 8,100-meter individual race with a time of 26:15.30. A tight-scoring pack followed closely, with junior John Lee (Wading River, N.Y.) placing 34th (26:19.19), senior Mark Valentino (Smithtown, N.Y.) in the following spot (26:30.15) and freshman Steven Rizzo coming in next (36th; 26:30.95). Junior Patrick Rynkowski (Ridgewood, N.J.) completed the scoring for Marist, finishing in 43rd place with a time of 26:47.71.
The individual performances were a huge improvement over 2013, as the first eight Marist runners across the line exceeded last year's first-place finisher for the Red Foxes.
Marist returns to action Sept. 20 at the Monmouth Invitational in Holmdel, N.J., site of this year's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships.
