Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa – The Marist football team suffered a 21-6 loss at Drake on Saturday afternoon. It was the Pioneer Football League opener for both teams.
Senior free safety Zach Adler (Walden, N.Y.) had his fourth interception in as many games. Adler led the Red Foxes with 10 tackles, six of which were solo stops. The Marist defense recorded three interceptions, as senior safety Connor Mathias (West Lawn, Pa.) and junior defensive end Landon Moore (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) also picked off passes. Moore also had one-and-a-half tackles for losses.
Offensively, fifth-year senior wide receiver Armani Martin (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and senior wide receiver Matt Tralli (Croton, N.Y.) each eclipsed the 100-reception milestone for their careers. Tralli led the Red Foxes with eight receptions for 93 yards, while Martin had four catches for 77 yards.
Marist opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 21-yard field goal by sophomore Mike Maccarone (Gibbstown, N.J.). The Red Foxes maintained the 3-0 lead thanks to an interception by junior defensive end Landon Moore (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), which ended a 17-play, 82-yard drive and gave the Red Foxes the ball at their own 5. However, Drake took the lead with 35 seconds left in the first half on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Andy Rice to Neko Graf.
Maccarone's second field goal, coming from 24 yards out, cut Marist's deficit to 7-6 with 8:34 left in the second quarter. Drake answered with a three-yard rushing touchdown by Conley Wilkins in the third quarter, and expanded its lead to 21-6 on a one-yard quarterback sneak by Andy Rice with 5:56 left in the game, which closed out the scoring.
Marist is now 0-4 overall. Drake is 2-2.
