Men's Soccer Draws UNH to End Non-Conference Slate

Box Score

DURHAM, N.H. - The Marist men's soccer team picked up its second draw of the season, playing University of New Hampshire to a 1-1 tie in its final non-conference match of the season. The Red Foxes moved to 4-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 on the road, while UNH jumped to 3-4-1.

The Wildcats hit the post at the four minute mark but didn't get their first goal until junior AJ Albers found the back of the net on a feed from classmate Jesus Tudela in the 30th minute. Marist got the equalizer fewer than three minutes later when senior Matty Berman (West Orange, N.J.) got the ball to freshman Brandon Curtis (Stony Point, N.Y.), who netted his first career goal.

Marist's stingy defense did not allow a shot on goal for more than 55 minutes and blocked a shot by UNH senior David Schlatter to force overtime for the second time this season. A header by freshman Brendan Gallivan (Massapequa, N.Y.) went wide in the final minute of double overtime to keep the score deadlocked.

"It was a good road effort by the guys, especially in the second half," head coach Matt Viggiano said. "(UNH) are a big strong team and unfortunately we got caught on a set piece, but we showed
great resilience getting the equalizer right back. We controlled most of the second half, we just couldn't find a winner. It was a good test of what's to come in the MAAC. We are looking forward to being whole on Wednesday and playing for points."

Freshman Mark Rajovic (Katonah, N.Y.) finished with six saves in net to preserve the tie. He made three stops during a 1:21 span in the first overtime. Senior Travis Worra totaled three saves for the Wildcats.

The Red Foxes will open MAAC play when they host Manhattan at 4 p.m. Oct. 1 in Tenney Stadium. The match will be streamed live on the Red Fox Network.
