POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. The Marist men's basketball suffered a 69-59 home loss to Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Friday at McCann Arena.

Senior guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) led all scorers with 22 points. Junior forward Philip Lawrence (Baltimore, Md.) added 10. Junior center Eric Truog (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Zedric Sadler came off the bench to pace three Rider scorers in double digits with 15. Sadler added five steals. Xavier Lundy and Junior Fortunat added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Teddy Okereafor added six points, a team-high nine rebounds, five assists and a steal.

The game included 12 lead changes and seven ties. A three-pointer by Lawrence gave Marist a 12-9 lead with 13:31 left in the first half. The Broncs then answered with an 11-2 run to take a six-point lead. Rider's largest first-half lead was seven with 3:28 remaining until halftime. Marist answered with two three-pointers by Thomas and another by Lewis on three consecutive possessions to give the Red Foxes a two-point lead with 1:52 left in the half. A basket by Sadler at the first-half buzzer tied the score at 29.

In the second half, the lead changed hands nine times. With 9:56 to play, a basket by sophomore center Kentrall Brooks (Bronx, N.Y.) put the Red Foxes up 48-45. Rider answered with a 12-0 run and held Marist scoreless over the next 5:08 to take the lead for good.

Marist is now 1-12 overall and 0-3 in the MAAC; Rider is 8-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Marist returns to action on Sunday at Saint Peter's. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.

Notes: The 22-point game was the 33rd in Lewis' career with at least 20 points. He now has 1,715 career points. … Truog now has two career double-digit rebound games. His first came with a career-high 13 at VMI on Dec. 13. … Marist had 21 turnovers. The Red Foxes have had at least 16 turnovers in each of their last eight games. … Rider has won 13 of the last 15 meetings between the teams. … Freshman forward Obi Momah (Farmington, Conn.) had his first career basket late in the first half. Momah had two points, three rebounds, a blocked shot and an assist in nine minutes off the bench.
