POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior center Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) scored 19 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked four shots in 18 minutes as the Marist women's basketball team (13-7, 9-2 MAAC) defeated the Manhattan Jaspers (2-17, 1-9 MAAC), 77-38, Thursday night at McCann Arena.

Junior forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) scored 17 points and blocked three shots on 5-for-8 shooting, all from the three point arc. Junior guard Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) added 13 points and grabbed six rebounds and junior guard Eileen Van Horn (Waukesha, Wis.) scored a career high seven points off the bench.

“Right from the beginning we started off great on both ends of the floor,” head coach Brian Giorgis said. “Especially on the defensive end we made them work for everything that they got.”

Three three pointers in a row from Blais sparked a 13-4 run to open the first half in the Red Foxes victory. Another 14-2 run to close the half would give the Red Foxes a cushion they would use to coast to victory in the second half.

Not only did the Red Foxes start out hot on offense they were equally impressive on the defensive end as they held the Jaspers scoreless for nine minutes in the first half, spanning from the 10:05 minute mark to 1:01 left in the first half, building a 23-13 lead to a 35-15 lead.

Ten out of the eleven Red Foxes who entered the game contributed in the scoring column. This game included, the Red Foxes have now held seven of their 11 MAAC opponents to 30 percent shooting or less and 15 of their 20 opponents on the year to 40 percent shooting or less.

The Red Foxes bench contributed in a big way, outscoring the Jaspers bench 23-6. As a team the Red Foxes outscored Manhattan in the paint 26-20 and grabbed 44 rebounds, 14 offensive, to the Jaspers 30. The Red Foxes assisted on 20 of their 28 made field goals.

We were very efficient on the offensive end, we did some good things and handled their pressure really well,” Giorgis said. “I thought our bench played really well, it was nice to see we got contributions from everyone.”

For the Jaspers, guard Taylor Williams scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds. Kayla Grimme and Mikki Guiton each scored six points. As a team the Jaspers finished the game 17-for-58 (.293) from the field and 4-for-13 (.308) from behind the arc.

Up next the Red Foxes hit the road to take on the Iona Gaels for the first time this year on Saturday, Jan. 31, tip-off is set for 4 P.M and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3. The Red Foxes are 33-10 all-time vs the Gaels but split both meetings in the two games against Iona last season. Losing once at home but winning the season finale.
