JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 79-67 loss at Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Sunday.

Senior guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with 20 points. Lewis, who shot 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, became the program's all-time leader in free throws made with 448. Senior guard/forward Manny Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman point guard K.J. Lee (Huntington Station, N.Y.) each added 11 points. Lee did not miss a shot from the field, going 4-for-4 including a 2-for-2 performance on three-pointers. Junior center Eric Truog (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) had a team-high eight rebounds to go along with nine points and two assists.

Marist shot a season-best .512 (21-for-41) from the field. The Red Foxes also shot .467 (7-for-15) from three-point range.

Desi Washington of Saint Peter's led all scorers with 26 points. Washington shot 7-for-10 from the field, 3-for-6 from three-point range and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. The Peacocks had four double-digit scorers, and shot .543 (25-for-46) from the field.

The first half included hot shooting by both sides, as Marist shot .545 (12-for-22) in the first 20 minutes, and Saint Peter's shot .654 (17-for-26). Saint Peter's led for all but 51 seconds of the first half, but a three-pointer by Lewis cut Marist's deficit to 31-29 with 3:53 left in the half. However, Saint Peter's outscored Marist 13-3 over the remainder of the half to take a 12-point halftime lead.

Saint Peter's led by as much as 16 on two occasions in the second half, but Marist cut it to two with 2:54 to go after two made free throws by Lewis. However, Washington and Tyler Gaskins hit three-pointers on Saint Peter's next two possessions, and the Peacocks never led by less than eight the rest of the way.  

Marist is now 1-13 overall and 0-4 in the MAAC; Saint Peter's is 8-7 overall and 2-2. The Red Foxes return to action on Thursday, when they host Canisius at 7 p.m.

Notes: The previous career record holder for free throws made at Marist was 446 by Alan Tomidy, who played at Marist from 1992-96. … Lewis now has 34 career games with at least 20 points, and now has 1,735 career points. … Thomas now has 24 three-pointers this season, a new career high for threes made in a season. He is the only Red Fox to hit a three in 14 of Marist's games this season. … Marist's turnover total of 14 was its lowest in its last nine games. … Junior center Connor McClenaghan (Carrolton, Texas) tied his career high with six points. McClenaghan was 1-for-3 from the field and 4-for-5 from the line in seven minutes. … Marist held Saint Peter's to .400 shooting from the field (8-for-20) in the second half.
