FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Marist women's soccer team improved to 4-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play dominating the Fairfield Stags, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at Lessing Field in Fairfield, Connecticut. The Red Foxes have now scored a total of 13 goals in their last two road contests.
Brianna Robinson kicked off the scoring for Marist just three minutes into the match when she pursued a back pass from a Fairfield Stags defender to her goalkeeper, blocked the goalies clearance attempt off her body, and then chased down the loose ball to knock it home.
The Red Foxes then scored just nine minutes later as Erica Crosier continued her hot stretch and scored her first of two goals on the day to give Marist a 2-0 lead.
Fairfield pulled the deficit to just one with three minutes remaining in the half as the teams headed to the locker room with the score at 2-1 Marist.
From there the Red Foxes dominated the scoring, tallying five goals in the second half. Hope Quinonez scored first in the 53rd minute followed by Crosier's second of the game in the 62nd. In the 72nd minute Juliette Loccisano got into the scoring column after an assist from Camille Bowen.
Also getting in on the action and scoring their first goals of the season were Danielle Glazer, who scored in the 83rd minute, and Paige Jacob, who recorded her goal from distance in the 87th minute.
Overall the Red Foxes peppered the Fairfield net firing 22 shots toward goal, 15 of them on target. Quinonez had six shots (four on goal), Robinson had four shots (three on goal), and Crosier and Loccisano each had two shots.
With the win the Red Foxes have now won three consecutive and now stand at 5-7-1 overall. With the loss Fairfield moves to 4-8-2 overall, 1-3-1 in the MAAC.
Women's soccer hits the road to face Brown on Monday, October 12th and then returns home for a two game home stand next week as they take on Iona on Wednesday, October 14th at 4 p.m. and then celebrate senior night on Friday, October 16th at 7 p.m.
