There were nine ties and six lead changes in the opening frame, but the Golden Griffins ended on a 6-2 run highlighted by three service aces. Marist quickly turned the tide with an 11-3 scoring spree to begin the following set. Five straight kills from the Red Foxes with Schlegel serving helped increase the lead to as much as 15.
Neither side trailed by more than five until the final point of a much closer third frame. A .640 sideout percentage in the set propelled the Red Foxes and a Lahey service ace gave them a 2-1 edge. The Griffins took the lead four times in the fourth set, but they did not come back after tying the score at 18. A 7-3 run that included three kills from junior Liz Gassman gave Marist the match.
Gassman also led the Red Foxes with three total blocks. Marist had a 58-29 advantage in assists and hit .289.
