POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - In a contest that came down to the final possession, the Marist men's basketball team lost to Holy Cross, 67-64, to begin the 2015-16 regular season Nov. 13 in McCann Arena.

Junior guard Khallid Hart and Holy Cross junior guard Robert Champion each made a pair of free throws before the Red Foxes had possession until the final whistle.

Hart scored 20 or more points for the ninth time in his career, finishing with 21. Senior Eric Truog tied a game-high with 12 rebounds and racked up four assists.

Making their collegiate debuts, freshmen Kristinn Palsson (15) and Brian Parker (13) tallied double-digit points. Palsson also made all of Marist's three pointers, going 4-for-8 from behind the arc.

Champion led the Crusaders with 16 points, and junior Matt Husek grabbed 12 rebounds and added a block.

The Red Foxes owned a 37-32 edge in rebounds, while the Crusaders had 14 assists to Marist's 11.

Holy Cross got off to a fast start, ripping off nine straight points, but Marist climbed back into the contest with a 9-2 run punctuated by a Hart layup. Those two points from Marist with just under two minutes left in the first half cut the Crusader's lead to 23-22. A Husek jumper at the tail end of the first half sent both sides into the locker room with Holy Cross leading 31-24 .

At the 15:21 mark of the second half, Marist took its first lead of the night, pulling ahead 37-36 on a Hart layup. About three minutes later, Phillip Lawrence-Ricks contributed to the Red Foxes' total of 20 points in the paint with a tip in that made it 46-43 Marist. That would be the Red Foxes' largest lead of the evening.

Marist will be back in action when it hosts Dartmouth at 7 p.m. Nov. 17. Tickets are available through Maristtickets.com.
