BURLINGTON, Vermont - The Marist men's basketball team suffered an 86-60 defeat at Vermont in non-conference play on Sunday.

Freshman guard Brian Parker led all scorers with 22. Parker shot 9-for-13 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Red-shirt junior guard Khallid Hart added 15 points. Freshman guard/forward Ryan Funk scored a career-high eight points in 12 minutes off the bench. Senior center Eric Truog grabbed a team-high six rebounds. The Red Foxes only committed 11 turnovers.

Kurt Steidl led five Catamounts in double digits with 17 points. Dre Wills had 10 points to go along with game highs of 11 rebounds and six assists. Vermont shot .571 (36-for-63) from the field and outrebounded Marist 46-20. The Catamounts held a 21-6 edge in second-chance points.

Vermont scored the game's first six points before a three-pointer by freshman guard/forward Kristinn Palsson cut the Catamounts' lead in half at the 17:27 mark. An 8-0 run by the Red Foxes, punctuated by a three-pointer from Hart, gave Marist a 14-12 lead at the 12:03 mark. However, Vermont answered with a 10-0 run and took the lead for good. The Catamounts then outscored the Red Foxes 11-2 over the final three minutes of the first half as they took a 43-29 lead into the locker room.

Vermont expanded its lead by scoring the first eight points of the second half. The Catamounts' largest lead was 29.

Marist is 1-3; Vermont is 3-4.

Marist returns to action on Friday, when the Red Foxes open their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule against Iona at McCann Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are available for sale on GoRedFoxes.com.
