FAIRFIELD, Connecticut - The Marist volleyball team (17-9, 10-5 MAAC) forced a fourth set, but fell to the Fairfield Stags in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference midweek matchup Nov. 4.
The Stags took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-19 before Marist got on the board with a 25-22 victory in the third set. Fairfield won the final frame 25-19.
Sophomore Kelsey Ediger racked up 13 kills and 12 digs, while junior Amanda Schlegel had the other double-double for the Red Foxes with 37 assists and 15 digs.
Marist cut the deficit to 23-21 toward the end of the opening set, but a pair of errors put Fairfield ahead early in the contest. The next frame featured seven ties as neither side strung together more than three straight points.
Despite being down 2-0, Marist carried over its rally killing into the third set. Two of the Red Foxes' six service aces in the match highlighted an 8-1 run that extended the lead to five. A kill from freshman Lauren Waide continued the match, but the Stags jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth set and never looked back to pick up their ninth MAAC win of the season.
Junior Devon Dawson jumped for a match-high 5 blocks and classmate Lexi Millington had 25 digs and four service aces.
For Fairfield, sophomore Skyler Day and junior Megan O'Sullivan slammed 17 kills apiece while sophomore setter Sydney Buckley chipped in 49 assists and a service ace.
The Red Foxes will compete in three straight home matches to end the 2015 regular season. The first of the trifecta in McCann Arena will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 when Marist hosts Niagara.
