POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist volleyball team (19-9, 12-5 MAAC) defeated Canisius in five sets in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle Nov. 8 in McCann Arena.

The 3-2 win (22-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-16, 17-15) vaulted the Red Foxes into third place in the MAAC standings with one regular season match remaining.

Junior Lexi Millington racked up a career-high 32 digs and three service aces, both of which were match highs. Her nine assists were also a career high. Junior Amanda Schlegel chipped in 19 digs along with 57 assists from the setter position.

Consecutive kills from sophomore Kelsey Ediger put the Red Foxes within striking distance in the opening set at 23-21, but the Golden Griffins took the early lead. Marist went up 14-7 in the following frame and countered a Griffs run with seven straight points of their own. A pair of kills from senior Kelsey Lahey highlighted the run. Lahey finished the afternoon with a career-high 25 kills.

After Canisius dominated the third set Marist dug deep to lead the entire fourth set. A decisive fifth frame was needed after a 6-1 run that included a Schlegel service ace gave the Red Foxes a 25-16 victory.

In a back and forth final set that featured five lead changes, Lahey slammed five kills. Canisius did not go away quietly, tying the score at 14 after it had trailed 13-9. A Marist blocking error put the Golden Griffins ahead, but three straight Red Foxes points gave them their 19th win of the season and 12th in conference play.

Canisius had 101 digs in the contest, including a team-high 28 from senior Rachel Kline. Senior setter Grace Streicher posted team bests for the Golden Griffins in assists (45), service aces (3) and total blocks (2).

The Red Foxes will host top MAAC seed and defending conference champion Siena in the 2015 regular season finale at 1 p.m. Nov. 14. Marist will honor its two seniors, Lahey and Courtney Shaw, prior to the match.
