BOSTON, Massachusetts – The Marist women's basketball team secured a 73-54 win against the Boston University Terriers, Saturday afternoon at Case Gymnasium. The Red Foxes had four different players finish with double-digits for the first time this season.
Sydney Coffey led the way for Marist with 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field. Coffey added four assists and three rebounds to go along with a steal. Allie Clement used some sharpshooting from outside to pace her way to 17 points, two assists, and two steals. Clement shot 5-for-8 from deep and went 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
Tori Jarosz secured her sixth double-double of the season and fourth in a row with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Jarosz also added three assists and three blocks. Freshman Maura Fitzpatrick was the Red Foxes fourth scorer in double figures as she scored a career high 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field. Fitzpatrick also pulled down six rebounds.
Quick threes in succession after the first media timeout by Clement and Fitzpatrick would put the Red Foxes up 13-2 early in the first quarter. A 5-0 Terrier run snapped by a wide open layup for Jarosz and another three from Clement gave the Red Foxes a 5-0 run of their own as the Red Foxes finished the first quarter leading 18-7.
The Red Foxes defense held strong in the second, holding the Terriers to another single-digit quarter, and 7-for-30 (.233) shooting from the field in the half. A three from the wing at the buzzer by Coffey sent the Red Foxes into the locker room with a 31-16 lead at halftime. Overall the Red Foxes hit on 7-of-14 (.500) of their three point attempts in the first half and 12-for-27 of their shots overall.
An 8-2 run by the Terriers would cut into the Red Foxes lead and make it 48-36 with 2:22 remaining in the third quarter. Driving layups from Claire Oberdorf and Morgan Bartner would push the Red Foxes lead back up to 14 heading into the final 10 minutes. The high scoring quarter saw 43 points between the two teams as the Terriers would outscore the Red Foxes 22-21 heading into the final stanza.
A quick 4-0 run to start the 4th for the Terriers would cut the deficit to 10 for the first time since the first quarter. Clement's fifth three of the game pushed the lead back to 13 with 8:46 remaining in the game followed by a defensive stop and layup from Jarosz to make it a 15 point lead. After a few more stops, some great ball movement from Marist found an open Coffey, who drained a three and pushed the lead back to 18, capping a decisive 8-0 run for the Red Foxes.
The Red Foxes head home for their final two games of 2015 as they host non-conference games against Hofstra on December 20th and then Princeton on December 29th.
