POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team was defeated by Iona by a score of 101-66 in its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener on Friday night at McCann Arena.

Red-shirt junior guard Khallid Hart led Marist with 18 points. Hart shot 7-for-12 from the field and 4-for-8 from three-point range. Hart has scored in double figures in all five of Marist's games this season. Freshman guard Brian Parker added 16 points for his third straight game in double digits. Parker shot 6-for-8 from the free-throw line. Senior center Eric Truog paced Marist with five rebounds, and added six points, two assists and a blocked shot.

Iona had five scorers in double digits, paced by Jordan Washington with 21 on 8-for-10 shooting from the field. Deyshonee Much shot 8-for-11 from the field and finished with 19 points. Isaiah Williams had a game-high nine rebounds, which complemented his 18 points on six three-pointers. A.J. English totaled 16 points, nine assists, six rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals.

Marist jumped out to an 8-3 lead, thanks to three-pointers by freshman forward Kristinn Palsson and sophomore guard K.J. Lee, along with a tip-in by Truog. Iona took its first lead with 14:27 left in the first half on a three-pointer by Williams, and the Gaels led the rest of the way. The Williams three-pointer was part of a 22-2 run. The Red Foxes did not have a field goal in the final 5:20 of the first half, and Iona outscored Marist 16-1 in this span, which gave the Gaels a 52-26 halftime lead.

Iona's largest lead was 42 points. Marist was never closer than 25 points in the second half.

Iona shot .633 (38-for-60) from the field and .480 (12-for-25) from three-point range. Marist shot .379 (25-for-66) from the field. The Red Foxes held a 34-32 edge in rebounds, and had 17 on the offensive end. Iona had 24 assists against just nine turnovers. Marist committed 17 turnovers.

Marist fell to 1-4. Iona is now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in MAAC play.

The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, when they head to MAAC foe Manhattan on Sunday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
