EAST HARTFORD, CONN. – Playing their first matches of the spring session, the Marist women's tennis team fell to the UConn Huskies of the American Athletic Conference, 7-0, Saturday Afternoon at the East Hartford Tennis Courts.
The Red Foxes participated in three doubles matches and six singles matches. Freshman Claire Schmitz (Scotia, N.Y.), junior Melissa Carlay (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), junior Katie Seitz (Pennington, N.J.) and junior Nikki Rohan (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) all participated in both doubles and singles.
The team of Schmitz and junior Karly Pang (Kaneohe, Hawaii) led off the day but fell in doubles to the Huskies team of junior Srna Stosljevic and senior Maxene Weinberg, 6-4. Carlay and Rohan followed and were defeated by sophomore Emma Alderman and freshman Zaina Zaki of the Huskies, 6-1.
On the singles side of things sophomore Callie Morlock (Golden , Colo.) brought her match against the Huskies Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva to 7-5 in the first set before falling in the second set 6-2. The third singles match was the closest the Red Foxes would get to an impressive Huskies team.
The Red Foxes return to action next weekend in Albany, N.Y. as they take on the University of Albany as they continue to tune up for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference season.
